Ned Potter's career in the Motor Industry started
with a four year apprenticeship in a small, independent, Hereford
garage. The pay was poor, but the experience rich and when
he completed his City and Guilds Craft Studies he moved to
the VW Dealership in Hereford as a fully skilled mechanic.
In 1983 he was promoted to Service Adviser.
Studying continued as Ned completed a further two year evening
course to gain his full Technical Certificate. Around this
time Ned had set up his own workshop in a converted barn at
the back of the family home, primarily to prepare and service
his Rally Cars. This was the start of the successful business
that it is today.

Ned Potter Motor Vehicle Services began trading from
the converted barn in 1985, specialising in both VW and
Audi. It was six months before he realised he needed help
to keep up with demand, so his first YTS employee was taken
on. Business grew steadily and Ned soon needed a full time,
skilled mechanic.
By 1988, this small team had outgrown the 'barn' and a new,
purpose-built workshop was designed and constructed. These
premises include Class 4 MOT Testing facilities with
the latest equipment necessary to keep up with ever changing
technology.
The business continued to develop and Ned moved forward in
1991 by adding Used Car Sales to the equation. This
step was initially for his own Service Customers however
a wider clientele emerged.
As with many small businesses Ned was aware of the growing
pressure of admin and need for improved information, so his
wife, Beccy, a Chartered Certified Accountant became
a partner in 1995.

The computer system was subsequently upgraded to a bespoke
garage package which brought many improvements for all aspects
of the business. This system provides the facility to mail shot
customers to remind them of MOT and service dates.Vehicle
history is also stored to give our Technicians the essential
information needed when servicing/repairing.
Ned Potter Vehicle Motor Services, by this time had
a track record of steady growth, however Ned could see the
need to promote the Vehicle Sales Department due to
the demand for quality, used VW and Audi cars
and the spin-off of new customers being introduced to the
Service Department.
In 1999 Ned's plan to expand finally materialised with the
acquisition of a main road site at Beech Business Park,
Tillington Road, Hereford. This location offers an essential
"shop-front" for the display of the Vehicle Stock.
In October 2007 the workshops relocated to new purpose built premises adjacent to the sales site on Beech Business Park Hereford. The latest equipment was installed including a "Fully Automated MOT Test Lane". The reception/waiting area is much bigger and customers can now benefit from complimentary hot drinks and an Internet café.
This move, after twenty-one years at Pomona Garage finally brings the two sides of the business together which will benefit both the company and customers alike.
